Groundwork is partnering with a coalition led by Forgotten Children of Haiti to collect relief items for the people of Haiti. Tuesday’s earthquake has caused unspeakable horror and damage to the country and left millions in need.
In this time of catastrophe, Groundwork is joining with other NYC based organizations that provide direct service in Haiti to provide relief. Below please will find a list of items that are most needed. Beginning on Tuesday, we will have two drop off locations. One is our 595 Sutter Avenue office (10am to 6pm, M-F) and the other is the Sumner Community Center located at 862 Park Avenue (3pm to 9pm, M-F, and 10am to 4pm on Saturdays).
A report released this week by the Fiscal Policy Institute entitled
New York City in the Great Recession: Divergent Fates by Neighborhood
and Race and Ethnicity shows how the recession has impacted the lives
of every day New Yorkers particularly Black and Hispanic males.
The report also reveals that East New York has the highest unemployment rate in the City with over
19% of the labor force out of work. Bedford-Stuyvesant had the third
highest unemployment rate at nearly 15%.
