The Board of Directors of Groundwork Inc. is pleased to announce the appointment of Derrick E. Griffith as the organization’s new Executive Director. He succeeds founding executive director Richard R. Griffith will join Groundwork on Monday, July 19, 2010.
"Derrick is a great fit for Groundwork,” said Matthew Klein, Chair of the Board of Directors of Groundwork. “He has a deep leadership background in youth development and education, high expectations for all young people, a respect for the communities we serve rooted in his own experience growing up in a similar neighborhood, and a management approach committed to high performance and outcomes. We’ve been fortunate to have remarkable leaders at Groundwork in Rich Buery, then Erica Ahdoot, and now Derrick Griffith.”

Today, Groundwork challenged the residents of each of our three campuses to complete and mail back the 2010 Census form in an effort to eclipse the area’s Census 2000 mail participation rates. Our goal is to raise the participation rate to 72% across each campus.
The East New York campus is made up of eight census tracks which averaged a 48.7% mail participation rate in 2000. The East New York-Canarsie is made up of three census tracts and Bedford-Stuyvesant is made up (in whole or partially) by nine tracts had response rates of 54.7% and 57.2% respectively. Below you can track response for each census tract.

Groundwork is partnering with the U.S. Census Bureau to help achieve a complete and accurate count of our population as part of the 2010 Census. Conducted every 10 years, the census defines who we are as a nation. It guides critical decisions on the national, state and local levels that affect members our community and the quality of our day-to-day lives.
For an accurate count, it’s essential that everyone in the United States must be counted – both citizens and noncitizens. Completing your census form gives you a voice to shape our communities today and create a brighter future for tomorrow.
