College Students - Junior Team Leader

 

Position:

Junior Team Leader, Groundwork for Youth After-School & Summer Academies.
Position Dates:

Pre-service training (paid) starts week of October 14. After-School Program starts on October 21 and continues through May 2004, following NYC Public School calendar.

Position Hours:

Program operates weekdays from 3pm to 6pm. High school students must work at least four days per week.
Salary:

$5.15/hour, or equivalent as provided through Youth Employment Program for qualified candidates.



Position Description:


Junior Team Leaders work with children in group activities that teach academic skills, social skills, and team work. Junior Team Leaders work with college students and professional staff, including graduate students, teachers and social workers. The after-school program will operate a homework clinic and reading and writing classes. Other program activities will include arts projects, athletics, team building games, and occasional field trips. The program will be based in a public school in East New York. ROLES and RESPONSIBILITIES: � Tutor children one-to-one in academic subject areas and study skills related to homework assignments and Groundwork's reading and writing classes. � Take an active role in instruction as an assistant and role model in all activities. � Provide for the emotional and physical well being of children by following all policies and safety procedures. � Participate in all program trainings, meetings, and events as required. QUALIFICATIONS: � Must enjoy working with children and being active in athletics, arts, and other activities. � Must have a strong school academic record (B average or higher), and commitment to continue to develop excellent academic skills. � Mature attitude, highly responsible, organized. � Previous experience working with children in a summer camp or youth program preferred. Previous experience participating in a summer camp or after-school youth program preferred.

Organization Summary:

Groundwork, Inc. is a new nonprofit organization that helps children in urban neighborhoods discover and develop their strengths, skills, and talents through high quality experiential learning programs. Groundwork for Youth, an academic and social enrichment program for children ages 7 to 13 launched in June 2002 in East New York. Groundwork for Youth gives high school students the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of children and to connect with other students who are deeply committed to helping children in Brooklyn grow and succeed.

Work with experienced high performance team of nonprofit executives. Work is performed under typical start-up operational conditions with frequent interruptions.
