Beyond the Child

There is a critical need for more comprehensive and consistent support services. The students we serve tend to experience violence, loss, and extreme stress at high levels - situations that must be addressed if we hope to foster personal development and academic achievement.

Groundwork provides students with weekly individual counseling, crisis intervention, play therapy, and classroom management support on an as-needed basis.

Our Support Services staff attempts to enlist parental involvement throughout the year either by meeting or phoning families, tracking each student's progress along the way.

In addition, we provide families with referrals to educational and psychological evaluations and more intensive mental health services.

Beginning the fall 2004, we will offer Groundwork students counseling during the school day in addition to summer and after-school hours, supplementing our partner schools' already overwhelmed counseling staffs.
